Case study: Atrade weighbridge on unstable soil in 4 weeks

Supplier: Ultrahawke
09 February, 2010

Ultrahawke Weighbridges are doing just that! P&O Ports has commissioned Ultrahawke to achieve this significant feat at their North Melbourne site which has very poor soil conditions, requiring extensive foundation works.

This weighbridge will be used to weigh all incoming and outgoing B-Double container trucks at the Dynon Road rail terminal.

Ultrahawk's Sales Manager, Mr. Ken Williams, accepted the $90k order and is personally overseeing this trade certified weighbridge project to ensure the 4 week deadline is met.

The vast experience and resources of Ultrahawk’s engineering department were also engaged in order to produce a modified weighbridge design to help ensure weighing accuracy is maintained in the long term. The 28 metre by 3.5 metre weighbridge deck was poured using a 40MPA blend to shorten the curing time to 7 days.

Ultrahawke’s civil works contractor, Christopher Renn Constructions, inserted 12 pilings up to 15 metres long under the weighbridge foundation to ensure a stable footing is achieved and maintained.

This Ultrahawke weighbridge design uses eight stainless steel Flintec RC3 weighbridge loadcells which are hermetically sealed to IP68 and fitted with integral surge arrestors. An Australian made Rinstrum 5000 digital weight indicator is used to display the weight readings to the weighbridge operator.

Ultrahawke celebrated 150 years of operation this year and are looking forward to another 150 years as Australia’s premier supplier of weighbridges and other heavy duty industrial scales to all states.
