Increased investment and a mine expansion required that the existing facilities at Wambo Coal be upgraded to cope with the extra workload and be done in an environmentally sensitive manner. As part of this expansion the truck washbay and workshop area were both redesigned and required a new Coalescing Plate Separator to be designed and supplied.

Delivery of a Baldwin Stainless Steel BSV-120/24/12 Separator with access platform and other equipment was required 6 weeks from date of order.

Design Performance:

The design required the treated effluent to be sent to an onsite pond and called for a very efficient separator with a performance guarantee. Influent conditions were assumed to be 1,000ppm oil with a high solids loading, at a flow rate of up to 6,000 litres per hour. The effluent requirement was for less than 10ppm of free oil and 100% removal of oil droplets 20 and larger.


Working closely with the mine operations maintenance engineer – Chris Davis from Roche Mining – Baldwin Industrial Systems was able to design and supply a Coalescing Plate Separator and associated items to the site requirements.

Drawings were completed and signed off in one week and the fabrication of the Coalescing Plate Separator took only 4 weeks. The Baldwin Coalescing Plate Separator was delivered on time and on budget to the Wambo site. “We made great progress, very quickly in the initial design phase of the project. Throughout the project Baldwin provided great service and excellent communications”, says Chris Davis.
