Case Study: Salvage recovery - submerged power vessel

Supplier: CI Agent Solutions
13 December, 2010

A sixty foot power boat was submerged in the Inner Coastal channel north of Jacksonville.

The vessel went down with nearly a full tank of fuel that was leaking into the channel. Prior to beginning the recovery effort, the Salvor deployed C.I.Agent Sheen Boom inside the hard boom on the down stream side of the sunken vessel to capture the fuel and prevent any sheen from escaping during ecovery. During the recovery, diesel fuel was observed leaking from the vessel into the channel. However, NO sheen was observed beyond the C.I.Agent Sheen Boom.

  • C.I. Agent
    • Clean-up Period: 4 days
    • Materials:2 25ft C.I. Agent Sheen Booms
    • Oil Retrieved: approximately 55 gallons, diesel
    • Total billing for product & labour: $3,825.00

Benefit Summary: Salvage crew was able to focus on the recovery effort. This in turn shortened the recovery time because they did not have to perform any response effort to recover the leaking diesel fuel.

Additionally, the responsible party was only issued a warning rather than a fine because the fuel was contained and no sheen was observed beyond the recovery site.
