Why Should Concrete Be Cured?

Curing is essential to the achievement of good quality concrete. It is a process often overlooked to the detriment of long-term durability and the wear resistance of the slab.

The purpose of curing is to ensure that the concrete does not dry out prematurely, but retains moisture so that it will build up strength.

Compressive strength of concrete is 80 to 100% greater than the strength of concrete that has not been cured.

Drying, shrinkage and cracking is reduced. If enough water evaporates from the concrete before it has attained its maximum strength, there will not be sufficient water remaining in the concrete to fully hydrate the cement.

Curing helps to protect the concrete surface during the construction period.
