Due to their high resistance to inter-crystalline corrosion and to stress corrosion cracking, Duplex steels are used for process instrumentation in offshore oil extraction applications and chemical processes & manufacture.
In pressure measuring instruments Duplex is used as a material for diaphragm seals, which are employed for separating the aggressive process media from the actual sensor element.
A special bonding method for seal diaphragms, which has been developed by WIKA, enables the use of the austenitic-ferritic steel Duplex 2205 (1.4462) as diaphragm material in diaphragm seals. Therefore pressures ranging from only a few millibars, up to several hundred bars (including under acid gas conditions according to NACE MR 0175) can be successfully measured without any problems.
With this innovative advancement in the field of special materials for pressure measurement WIKA has demonstrated that even extremely difficult process instrumentation tasks can be solved.
WIKA also provide flanged or screw fitting diaphragm seals in stainless steel, Hastelloy, Monel, PTFE etc. and a fitting, filling & calibration service.
