This module will provide you with the basic skills, knowledge and information to safely operate an Excavator.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the Unit of Competency RIIMPO301C Conduct hydraulic excavator operations, a Notice of Satisfactory Assessment and a wallet-sized ticket.

Participants will be trained and assessed in the following:

  • Operating a excavator safely
  • Load truck
  • Trench
  • Ascend and descend the bench
  • Build ramps
  • Face up benches
  • Clean areas
  • Work safely in a productive environment

  • OHS Regulations and Act
  • Inspection of equipment
  • Plan and prepare operations
  • Inspect and prepare work area
  • Equipment and attachments
  • Pre start checks
  • Operating techniques
  • Response to hazards and emergency situations
  • Operational maintenance

The following conditions are not requirements for our course but do apply to most construction and mine sites:

  • "HR" Class Licence
  • Drug and alcohol test (at point of interview)
  • Police clearance

Training conditions are simulated to a mining/civil work environment in which:

  • Steel capped safety footwear and suitable clothing are essential
  • Sunscreen is advisable
  • Hardhats and vests are provided
  • Course manual, notepads, etc are provided

Assessment methods are of written, theory and practical observation. If you have any literacy problems please advise ACMT Operator Training Staff at the point of Application.

Course duration

  • 3 day for training and assessment (No Experience Required)
  • 4 hours for experienced operators, assessment only, must supply work history


  • On successful completion you will be issued:
  • Statement of Attainment (RIIMPO301C Conduct hydraulic excavator operations)
  • Notice of Satisfactory Assessment
  • Wallet-sized plastic card stating the unit achieved
