Fair Work Building Inspectorate chiefs 'know what needs to be done'
Australian Industry Group chief executive, Innes Willox, has commented positively on the new Fair Work Building Inspectorate appointments.
"The Australian Industry Group welcomes the appointment of Mr Nigel Hadgkiss as the head of the Fair Work Building Industry Inspectorate," Willox said recently.
"Mr Hadgkiss has extensive experience in ensuring that laws are understood and complied with, and where they are not, in investigating and prosecuting those responsible.
"Over the past few years we have seen a marked deterioration in the industrial environment in the construction industry with many instances of unlawful and inappropriate conduct by construction industry unions.
"Mr Hadkiss has the right skills, experience and approach to tackle the problems, and he will enjoy the strong support of industry," Willox added.
"We also welcome the appointment of Mr John Lloyd to chair the Inspectorate's Advisory Board on which the Australian Industry Group is represented.
"Both Mr Hadgkiss and Mr Lloyd played key roles in achieving the very positive workplace relations environment which prevailed in the construction industry after the Royal Commission in 2002-03, and they know what needs to be done to achieve a return to that environment.
"If a positive industrial environment is to be recreated, in addition to these appointments, the federal government needs to introduce legislation into parliament without delay to restore the full role and powers of the Office of the Australian Building and Construction Commission. Such legislation deserves the support of all political parties," Willox said.
