Highly accurate flow measurement combined with advanced communication bus flexibility are now available from Fluid Components Intl with the addition to its mass flow instrument product lines of five popular communication buses: HART, Ethernet, Profibus, MODBUS and ASI.

Process and plant engineers will find that the addition of these five communication buses to FCI's high performance mass flow instruments offers a number of important advantages. They include improved plant operational efficiency achieved through increased information derived from both the process and the mass flow instruments, reduced wiring costs facilitated by multi-drop capability, enhanced diagnostics and preventative maintenance.

HART: HART, or highway addressable remote transducer, superimposes a digital signal on top of the standard 4-20mA analogue signal, offering expanded intelligence. FCI's ST98 and CMF flow meters now feature built-in HART capabilities with full two-way digital communication. HART also is available as a separate optional module for FCI's FLT93, GF, ST and MT Series flow switch and flow meter product lines.

Ethernet: Ethernet communications offer exceptional speed, flexibility and web accessibility for computer-based automation. FCI's ST, GF and MT flow meters can be specified with an optional Ethernet module featuring full two-way digital communication. The Ethernet transport layer for FCI’s products is TCP / IP or UPC.

Profibus: PROFIBUS is a digital, bi-directional, multi-drop, serial communications bus network. FCI's FLT93, ST, GF and MT Series flow meter product lines are now offered with a separate module that supports PROFIBUS communications. FCI offers PROFIBUS in the DP and ASCII formats at this time.

Modbus: MODBUS is the simplest of the higher level communication protocols and has a long record of excellent field service across a wide variety of applications. FCI's MODBUS is offered through a module that supports the MODBUS RTU protocol. FCI’s FLT93, ST, GF and MT Series flow instruments are available with an optional MODBUS module.

ASI: The Actuator Sensor Interface (ASI) is a master-slave configuration that communicates directly or together with field bus systems from a control level PLC or PC via field level protocols, such as CAN, DeviceNet, FIP, Interbus, and Profibus, to field level sensors and actuators. FCI’s FLT93 Series Switches are available with an optional ASI module featuring one-way communications.

Developed with Coriolis sensing technology, the FlexCOR® CMF Series Coriolis flow meter processes multi-parameter information such as mass flow, volumetric flow, density, temperature and fraction-flow. The GF Series thermal Gas Mass Flow meter is designed especially for rugged, high temperature, high-pressure environments. Providing multi-point measurement, the MT Series Multipoint Thermal Mass Flow Meter from FCI supports stack gas monitoring or industrial HVAC systems.
