Endess+Hauser has pioneered an in-head Foundation Fieldbus based temperature controller and transmitter with two input channels. The new iTemp TMT85 offers universal temperature input capabilities, including RTD’s, thermocouples or voltage and is suitable for use with 2-wire, 3-wire and 4-wire sensor technology.
The instrument automatically detects the type of sensors connected for self configuration. For maximum versatility, the iTemp TMT85 also offers clever sensor diagnostics with the ability to monitor open circuit, cable corrosion, wiring errors and device hardware errors. With galvanic isolation between the Foundation Fieldbus and sensor inputs and for hazardous area use, the transmitter offers accurate and reliable temperature measurements in a wide variety of applications.
The unique ability to connect two temperature sensors to the iTemp TMT85 provides redundancy of measurement and guarantees measurement availability should either sensor fail. Another advantage of the dual sensor capability is the ability to compare various performance parameters and provide diagnostics in case of sensor drift. Termination of cables is available in traditional screwed format or new sprung terminals for quick and easy connection and release.
Whilst in-head transmitter are already recognized for cost savings when using thermocouples due to the elimination of expensive compensation cables, the iTemp TMT85 also embraces the Foundation Fieldbus philosophy wherein control resides in the field. The extremely compact DIN B style transmitter thus fits full PID control into the smallest connection heads and remote housings.
