1. OPEN ROUNDS

National Urban Water and Desalination Plan

  • Australia-wide
  • Stormwater harvesting and reuse projects

Part of the Australian Government's $12.9 billion Water for the Future Plan, the National Urban Water and Desalination Plan has a minimum $200 million for stormwater harvesting and reuse projects. Projects must use urban stormwater to reduce demand on potable water supplies. Funding is available for up to $20 million. Smaller projects may wish to contact Demand Manager with regards to a proposed bundled project under consideration.

Round 1 closes 30 June 2009, Round 2 closes 11 December 2009


Green Building Fund

  • Energy Efficiency, Commercial Office Buildings

The Green Building Fund ($90m over 4 years) aims to reduce the impact of Australia's built environment by reducing the energy consumed in existing commercial office buildings.

Two Rounds of the Fund have closed so far with no announced winners. Round 3 closes 5pm local time on 30 June 2009.


Re-Tooling for Climate Change

  • Energy & Water Efficiency, Manufacturing Operations

The Re-tooling for Climate Change program ($75m over 4 years) helps small and medium sized Australian manufacturers reduce their environmental footprint, through projects that improve the energy and/or water efficiency of their production processes, including Power Factor Correction. The program provides grants of between $10 000 and $500 000, up to a maximum of one thrid of the cost of each project.

Round 3 closes 5pm local time 1 June 2009.


Climate Ready

  • Energy & Water, Research & Development to Commercialisation 

The Climate Ready program ($75m over 4 years) is a competitive grants program providing grants from $50 000 up to $5m on a matching funding basis to support research and development, proof-of-concept and early-stage commercialisation activities to develop solutions to climate change challenges.

Round 4 closes 5pm AEDST 25 June 2009.


National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative

  • Water Harvesting, Implementation, Surf Life Saving Clubs

The Australian Government is offering grants of up to $10 000 to surf life saving clubs to install water saving and efficiency devices on club premises as a component of the $250 million National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative.


2. UPCOMING ROUNDS TO WATCH

  • Queensland
  • Sustainable Energy Innovation Fund (QSEIF)

The Queensland Sustainable Energy Innovation Fund (QSEIF) is administered by the Sustainable Industries Division of the EPA and assists Queensland based organisations to develop innovative technologies that reduce consumption of fossil fuels, water or greenhouse gas emissions.

Applications are expected to be called for Round 14 in March/April 2009 with selected projects to commence in late 2009.


NSW Green Business Program

  • Sustainable Energy and Water, Implementation

The NSW Green Business Program provides $30 million over five years for projects that will save water and energy in business operations in NSW. Round 2 is expected to be called in mid 2009.


3. RECENTLY ANNOUNCED FUNDED PROJECTS

Retooling for Climate Change

  • Energy and water savings manufacturing businesses

Round 1 of the Retooling for Climate Change has been announced via the Finance Department's budget announcements.

Round 1 &2 Climate Ready Program

  • Australia-wide
  • Energy & Water, Research & Development to Commercialisation

Successful projects from Rounds 1&2 of the Australian Government's Climate Ready Program have been announced.


4. OTHER FUNDING NEWS

NSW Energy Savings Scheme

The NSW Government is proposing to replace the Demand Side Abatement (DSA) component of the current NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme (GGAS) with the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) as of 1 July 2009. A briefing was held on 3 April 2009 and presentations from the seminar are available on the internet.
