The Kestrel 4000 proactively monitors and logs the environment to establish when employees should make provisions to prevent heat stress related illness. Within seconds, it assesses the level of heat stress and displays the index on the screen. Some of the key features of the 4400 are:-
Waterless Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) - Before the Kestrel 4400 most accurate WBGT measurement tools were large, cumbersome to use (requiring the transport of distilled water along with the measurement unit) and/or expensive. The pocket sized Kestrel 4400 provides accurate waterless WBGT measurements within minutes of exposure to the air.
The Black Globe - The Kestrel 4400 contains a compact black globe thermometer which indicates the radiant heat exposure of one in sunlight. The 1" Black Globe is calibrated to achieve the same measurements as a 6" globe.
Thermal Work Limit (TWL) - The 4400 displays TWL, another recognised composite heat stress prediction tool. Clothing levels can also be customised, making the Kestrel 4400 particularly useful in activities requiring heavy protective gear which worsens heat stress.
On Screen Alarms - For both WBGT and TWL, the Kestrel 4400 provides on-screen alarms when conditions enter the caution and danger zones, providing clear and immediate guidance that heat illness prevention steps must be taken.
Mean Radiant Temperature - Mean Radiant Temperature is primarily used to define the comfort of an individual in a defined, closed space (four walls and a ceiling). It is regarded as the most important measurement governing indoors comfort.
Naturally Aspirated Wet Bulb Temperature - Naturally Aspirated Wet Bulb Temperature function accounts for the effects of humidity on the human body. By combining relative humidity and wind speed, the temperature displayed is indicative of the evaporative cooling happening to the Kestrel 4400.
