Rising from the Australian revival of glass art in the 1970s, Cydonla is the dream of Sergio Redegalli. Sergio had always delved into the world of glass making, and knew that his destiny lay within it.

He studied visual arts and industrial design in high school and it was in high school that Sergio began to use perspex as a material for his work. When he moved on to university he progressed from the material that was almost perfect for his visions - perspex, to one that was perfect - glass.

It was at university that Sergio learned of his predecessor in the revival of glass art - Maureen Cahill. During the seventies, Maureen went to study art in England, the trip facilitated by some grants.

Upon her return, she started the first glass department in Australia, via Sydney College of the Arts. It was here that Sergio learnt all of the basics of glass techniques

Upon his completion of University, Sergio began to work towards creating Cydonia. Finally in 1986, his dream began to materialise. Cydonia was formed as a glass art studio, providing artistic designs which were original and groundbreaking.

After moving the studio to a larger building, Cydonia became one of the biggest and best equipped studios of its kind, and retains that position today. It produced various pieces of work, without succumbing to factory designs like competitors.

For this reason, when Maureen Cahill was commissioned to do some work at Parliament House, she came to Cydonia for assistance, as they were the only studio with a facility big enough to produce the designs
