The AM-4 mercury monitor for gas is designed to utilise mercury's character of a malgamation with gold on contact. The mercury in a sample of gas is collected in the form of gold amalgam. The gold amalgam is first heated so that the mercury can be gasified. The gasified mercury then is introduced to an absorption cell to perform quantification of the mercury by means of the cold vapor atomic absorption analysis method at the wavelength of 253.7nm.
This sophisticated method of the AM-4 mercury monitor is more sensitive and accurate than the above mentioned methods, and allows unmanned operation thanks to a preset intermittent operation program.
