Ned Kelly rides again – in robot form

Supplier: Robotic Automation By: Ron Raymond

Ned is portrayed here by the MOTOMAN SDA10 robot — the first dual-arm industrial robot in Australia.

The SDA series robots are slim and agile 15-axis dual-arm robots providing "human-like" flexibility of movement and fast acceleration.

Powerful actuator based design with high wrist performance and fully integrated supply cables, makes the SDAs ideal for a wide variety of operations such as assembly, part transfer, machine tending, packaging and other handling tasks that formerly could only be done by people. Both robot arms can synchronously work together or simultaneously perform tasks independently. Due to its small footprint it can operate in confined spaces, saving valuable floor space.

RA's award-winning engineering team quickly designed, integrated and programmed the robot with automatically-changing grippers (hands) and its three demo applications shown here within two weeks. Novelty-value aside, the performance demonstrates the potential of this robot across all areas of manufacturing with its human-like movement, flexibility and even human-like footprint.

Robotic Automation is the largest Australian supplier of turnkey automation systems — now celebrating over 23 years and over 3000 installations across Australia and NZ.

Popular applications include palletising, case-packing, materials handling, welding, materials delivery (AGVs), machine tending, spraying, cutting, stretch and shrink wrapping, and more.

RA also offers full consultation, finance, design, training and maintenance support services.
