Way Out Evacuation Systems were tasked with providing an evacuation system that is user friendly for passengers in case of smoke logging or blackout conditions in the Sydney underground rail system.
The markings had to be easy to read in case passengers were required to exit the train and make their way to the refuges sited at 90 metre intervals along the track.
- The emergency light source would provide 40 lux of excitation and the substrate had to be able to withstand the damp conditions and not support combustion in the case of a fire occurring
- With the prior knowledge of the fact that WAYOUT Evacuation System's Lumink system exceeds all IMO requirements A752(18) after 6 lux excitation and has been accredited under A653(16) for smoke logging and vertical spread of flame they were awarded the contract to complete this prestigious project
- Since completing this project to Railcorp's satisfaction WAYOUT has been approached by other Corporations within Australia and overseas who are looking to install a similar system
