Nonaqueous Coatings Systems by Polarity

These ISO certified plants are able to produce a variety of standard and customized products for the Paint and Coatings market. In the Tixogel® organoclay product lines, Süd-Chemie’ proprietary process imparts unique characteristics such as ease of dispersion and a free-flowing nature.
Typically, Süd-Chemie materials disperse much more easily than competitive organoclay and do not require the addition of dispersion aids or excessive incorporation energy.
Solvent-borne systems based upon aliphatic and aromatic solvents such as mineral spirits or xylene require the use of rheology modifiers with low polarity functionality. Typical Kauri-Butanol (KB) value of these systems is 25 to 65. Examples include alkyds, bituminous systems, traffic paints and underbody coatings.
Low to Medium Polarity Systems
Solvent-borne systems based upon high polarity and oxygenated solvents such as glycol ethers, ketones and alcohols have unique requirements and require the use of rheology modifiers with more polar functionality.
Typical KB value for these systems is 90 and above. Examples include epoxies, cellulose lacquers, urethanes, automotive coatings, chlorinated rubbers, plastisols and polyesters.
