RNC Universal Housing for multimedia services

Supplier: Rittal

Networks and multimedia services are almost ubiquitous today in every home, let alone companies of any size. The required decentralized network must consider the space conditions on site both for installation and the protection of crossing points. The RNC Universal Housing from Rittal is the first housing which despite its extremely compact design supports any extension needs with ease and flexibility. It is suitable both as stand-alone or for wall mounting.

This Universal Housing is particularly suitable where decentralised network tasks must be performed and space is a consideration. Where multimedia services from cable TV to telephone and internet must be brought together in the private house or nodes for smaller network segments within a company must be set up with a high level of safety, the Universal Housing is the best choice.

The basic model of the housing is merely 350 mm wide and can take up either 19” components (5 U) vertically or ½ 19” and 10” wide units (10 U). The depth of only 350 mm makes the housing particularly suitable in places with little space – wall-mounted or standing alone.

Safety is a primary concern at Rittal also for small housing solutions. This explains why the aesthetic black housing has a central lock on the tinted safety glass front door to protect from unauthorised intervention. The safety concept also extends to the removable side walls; they can only be removed when the front door is open. With the side walls removed, all units and cables inside the housing are easy to access without need of removal. The front door is pinned and can be removed with a handle.

Rittal has installed yet another feature in this compact housing: Additional modules can be added vertically or horizontally. Added horizontally, the combination of two parallel systems provides a space wide enough for 482.6 mm (19”) units. The design of the cable entry is of similar flexibility. Cut outs are provided on top and bottom (with brush strips) and also at the rear. Passive ventilation is provided by openings in the top and bottom plates and the rear frame; this is sufficient cooling for most installed components in the housing. When active components are used, optional axial fans can be installed in cut outs in the top and bottom plates.

The RNC Universal Housing from Rittal meets the needs of the unmitigated growth of network solutions in small offices and private homes, which planners of residential houses still grossly underrate in the view of this company.
