Rock Tooling - RS8

Supplier: Vermeer

Others steer clear of rock.

Price Guide: POA

Vermeer steers clear through it - Utilizing a patented tri-cone roller bit and specialized drill head housing, RS6/RS8 units allow simple setup, low fluid usage, use of standard locator transmitters and excellent steering efficiency.

Feature: No special machine requirements
Benefit: Reduces capital expenditures and allows a machine to be quickly converted to a rock drilling system by simply having the tool on site.

Feature: The RS8 Uses Standard Transmitters
Benefit: Allows bore depths to the limit of standard locating transmitters (potentially 70 ft.). Some competitive systems utilizing 4" cutting bits and inner drive shafts must use "mini" transmitters, limiting bore depths to 10-15 ft.

Feature: Uses Conventional Drill Stem
Benefit: Benefit 1: The machine does not have to be used as a dedicated rock drilling system or have the drill stem changed out when going from rock to conventional drilling. Benefit 2: Standard Firestick drill stem, with its high torque and flow capabilities, allows the same drill to open the hole as to make the pilot bore. Benefit 3: If hole opening will be required, the conventional drill stem does not limit drilling fluid flow like dual rod systems. Benefit 4: This system does not require an inner drive rod through the drill stem that restricts flow and needs regular maintenance. Benefit 5: Conventional drill stem has a better bend radius and does not limit the machine's rod carrying capacities.

Feature: Transmitter Is Located In the Steering Tool.
Benefit: Pitch changes and tool deflection can be monitored as they happen. With a mud motor it is often necessary to wait for the transmitter housing to get into the steer zone as the transmitter is housed so far behind the cutting bit.

Feature: Utilizes the Standard Rotation Gear Box
Benefit: Does not require a dual drive gear box which can lead to higher maintenance.
