The beauty of it is that if you wrap it around itself and with a little bit of tension it will seal many kinds of fluid or air leaks. For instance, if you have got a pipe running across or under water, or a radiator hose, and the radiator hose split you wrap the tape around it and it will seal it. It acts like a pressure bandage.
Being silicone it bonds to itself and it is a totally inert product. It can also deal with temperatures from -100 degrees centigrade to + 250 degrees centigrade.
In addition, it resists oil, salt and acid. The big difference between using this product and electrical tape or gaffer tape is that the other products have adhesives on them.
So when moisture or humidity attacks them, the adhesive balls up and they come off. However, this silicone tape will not do that. You can use it to repair plumbing, electrical equipment, insulation and overall there is a huge range of applications for it.
