SIL Process Valves (To Safety Integrity Level 3)

Supplier: Burkert Fluid Control Systems

In addition to SIL Solenoid Valves, B├╝rert now offers SIL Process & Control Valves

Price Guide (Inc GST): POA

Burkert has teamed up with international auditor Exida to test and certify the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) of a selection of 2/2 way Angle Seat and Globe Valves.

Increasing demand for reliable safety systems such as ESD, and insurable process systems, has generated a market for SIL valves that are compliant with defined target SIS.

The following units are now available from Burkert and capable to SIL 3:

2000 Angle Seat Valve: 2/2-way angle seat valve for media up to +180°C, DN 13-65; when de-energised, normally closed with spring action;

2002 Angle Seat Valve: 2/2-way angle seat valve, compact valve body, for media up to +180°C, DN 13-65; when de-energised, normally closed with spring action;

2012 Globe Valve 2/2-way globe valve for media up to +180°C, DN 10-100; when de-energised, normally closed with spring action.

SIL is a statistical representation of the reliability of a safety system when a fault occurs.  Assessment of the units consisted of FMEDA [Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostics Analysis] investigation, which is a key step in the achievement of International Standard IEC 61508.   IEC 61508 addresses the functional safety of programmable safety-related systems.

Summary – PFDAVG values

T[Proof] = 1 year

PFDAVG = 9,91E-04

T[Proof] = 5 years

PFDAVG = 4,94E-03

T[Proof] = 10 years

PFDAVG = 9,85E-03

ANSI S84.04 requires that companies assign a target SIL for all SIS. As well, after a Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) study, investigators may determine that certain critical systems require that a SIL be assigned.

The assignment of the target SIL is based on the amount of risk reduction that is necessary to mitigate the risk associated with the process to an acceptable level. All of the SIS design, operation and maintenance choices must then be verified against the target SIL.
