Industrial Photonics has developed an inspection system which can reliable inspect virtually any continuous web including carpet and textile products.
The most recent Tracker installation was completed at a carpet tile manufacturer. The objective was to perform complete inspection of each carpet tile as it was produced and remove defective tiles from the line.
The Tracker system deployed uses two inspection stations. The first station completes several inspections seven PPT smart cameras. Three colour cameras inspect the surface of each carpet tile and determines if there are any physical defects in carpet pile or pattern which may be a problem. These cameras can also detect excessive glue and other defects which effect product quality.
The first station also includes four cameras which inspect each edge for straightness and a dimensional check of each carpet tile set is also performed. Two of these cameras are fixed and detect short edge condition as the tiles move past the inspection by using laser triangulation technology. The long edge is inspected in the same way except in that case the cameras and associated laser generators are mounted on a linear track which id driven across the file set by servo motor. Laser triangulation is used once again to achieve the required inspection.
The carpet tiles then travel to the second inspection station where tiles are inverted and inspected for correct tile backing application. This function is achieved by two PPT smart cameras. The first camera uses laser triangulation to detect correct backing application as may be evidenced by excessive wrinkling.
The second camera does a more accurate carpet tile dimensional check as well confirming tile orientation markings are correctly applied.
The result as a fast and effective inspection of all required carpet tile features.
