The effective management of transport operations is vital to an optimised supply chain and customer satisfaction. It requires efficient management of loading, consignment note and manifest creation, delivery sequences and financial control and visibility.
An effective system optimises the scheduling of warehouse operations and aligns this with planned truck movements to ensure full capacity utilisation. The Transport Management System assists with the planning and management of goods delivered to customers, scheduling inbound loads for vendors and transfers between warehouses.
Load building is the foundation of Transport Management. It caters for both inbound, outbound load planning covering the transport planning functions for sales (deliveries and returns), purchases (deliveries and returns) and internal transfers outbound and inbound. Transport loads can be automatically generated or manually built by transport planners.
A delivery manifest consists of deliveries from one or more delivery runs, Transport Management for Microsoft Dynamics AX allows sales orders to be combined for delivery runs and these delivery manifests. Once consignment notes for each manifest are grouped into a logical delivery sequence, the delivery manifest is printed with a suggested delivery sequence for the driver to follow.
Transport Management will automatically calculate and accrue the carrier charges using flexible rules and criteria. Charges can be applied by considering weight, volume, pallet spaces, distance, zones, destination codes and more.
Least cost calculations
With multiple carriers potentially servicing the same delivery routes the transport management system allows you to run scenarios to enable you to effectively select the least cost transport solution for your delivery requirements. This analysis can be run for both point to point deliveries as well as multi-drop delivery runs including multi leg journeys if required.
Carrier charge accruals
Transport charges form the basis of the accrual calculation for transportation loads. A separate carrier charge table allows you to define carrier transport charges using the following options.
The calculation for the transport charge can be based on one of the following:
- Volume (cubic)
- Pallet space
The calculation can be defined for each transport carrier and each transport type combination allowing different rates to be defined based on different method of transport and transport capacities such a chiller, freezer or transport size.
