In severe operating conditions and applications where dirt and moisture, mechanical stress and vibrations affect the function of a standard Ethernet switch, this new ultra slim and extra robust switch from Westermo will hold. The strong metal housing is sealed to IP65 and MTBF is calculated to more than a 100 years. The Viper is designed to meet the EN 50155 railway standard as well as harsh industrial environments.
The Westermo Viper series is a family of two 8-port switches with different function levels. Both switches are fully managed with Real-time properties in order to achieve determinism for real time critical applications. The switches support QoS (Quality of Service) with four priority queues and strict priority scheduling as well as HoL (Head of Line Blocking Prevention). All to ensure that the data network is deterministic.
The more advanced unit, Viper 408, has even more features and can be used for building redundant rings with a 20 ms reconfiguration time using Westermo patented FRNT technology. STP and RSTP are also supported.
The units are well prepared for use in harsh industrial environments. The IP65 sealed metal case and rugged M12 front connectors of the unit make it robust and allows for the surrounding air temperature to be between –40 to +70°C. There are no sensitive or fragile components, hardening the product against shock and vibration making these units suitable for rolling stock usage. The power supply operates over a wide input range from 24 to 110 VDC.
