What is the Solar Credits scheme?

Supplier: Solar Juice
03 May, 2010

On 9 June 2009 the Federal Government announced that Homes, businesses and community organisations all over Australia installing renewable energy systems on or after this day would receive Solar Credits following passage of the Renewable Energy Target legislation.

The legislation was due to be debated in parliament in late June.

The effect of this legislation is to allow installers of eligible "small generation units" (SGUs) to create up to five times as many renewable energy certificates (RECs) as the SGU would normally be eligible for. The multiplier depends upon when the unit is installed:

Multiplier for certificates for small generation units Period Multiplier

  • 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010 – 5 x REC's
  • 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 – 5 x REC's
  • 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012 – 5 x REC's
  • 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013 – 4 x REC's
