Yates Australia, a division of Orica, manufacture well known Garden Products such as Yates, Hortico, Watkins, Zero, Aquasol, Thrive, Blitzem and Dynamic Lifter.
At their Mount Druitt Plant in Sydney, Kockums Bulk Systems where approached to design a Bulk Bag Unloading and conveying system to allow loading of the existing mixer from ground level. The current system involved a forklift lifting a full pallet of bags onto the high level platform and then manually tipping with the aid of a Kockums VacuEasyLift vacuum bag lifter directly into the mixer.
Yates are now able to obtain their main ingredients in Bulk Bags which has opened an opportunity to reduce the manual labour associated with sack tipping and management of empty waste sacks.
The newly designed system is located at floor level and product is elevated to the mixer using an Aero-mechanical Conveyor. Bulk bags are loaded onto the system by fork lift truck and utilising a certified lifting frame. The lifting frame is place on a simple support arm structure with location guides for easy loading. Additional support is provided by the discharge hopper below where safe access can be gained to untie the neck of the bag.
Also mounted within this hopper is a Flow-Stop to preventing product flow during untying of the bulk bag and stopping product flow when a partially empty bag is removed. The complete system operates in a loss of weight mode. The operator simply enters a target weight, press system start and the product is metered to within the nominated tolerance.
A sack tip unit is incorporated into the discharge station allow the introduction of minor ingredients or the option to revert back to sacks should bulk bag supply not be available. The VacuEasyLift was relocated to the ground floor for lifting of the 25kg bags
The project scope included electrical control and batch weighing, mechanical installation and commissioning.
