A Current limiting reactor is used to reduce the short-time current flowing to a value within the rating of the equipment connected after the reactor.
With regard to installation, these devices may be identified as:
Single phase or three phase
Cast resin dry type, conventional dry type or oil immersed
With air core or gapped iron core
With or without magnetic shield
With or without enclosure
For indoor or outdoor installation
With or without taps
Consideration must be given to the possible effects of magnetic stray fields which may emanate from a current limiting reactor. An iron cored or shielded reactor will have minimal stray fields when operating at rated current.
Under short-time current conditions, however, a high magnetic stray field will be generated even from a shielded reactor, because the magnetic shield is generally designed to be saturated when the reactor carries a high short-time current.
Therefore, the location of the phase windings and their position relative to operating personnel, other apparatus and metallic structures must be well planned so as to minimise exposure, undue heating and dangerous forces during the period of short time current.

TMC has been a leading enterprise in the field of transformer design and manufacture since 1937.
A wholly owned Australian company with its head office in Victoria, TMC excels at providing high quality induction equipment to the electrical power industry, with an emphasis on meeting exacting specifications and standards, while minimising cost.
TMC is fully accredited to the international quality standard ISO9001, and continues to build on a tradition of product excellence and customer focus.
Research and Development
The TMC Research and Development department developed TMC’s own cast resin transformer technology which has gained wide acceptance in the mining and building construction industries.
TMC’s cast resin transformers are exported to the Middle East and Asian markets and TMC casting technology is licensed to companies in Asia.
The TMC Research and Development department routinely studies cast resin electro-mechanical phenomena providing TMC with the best possible understanding of all aspects of cast resin transformer technology
TMC now offers a comprehensive range of technology products and services.
