Fluidquip In-line Sludge Density Monitoring

Using information collected from online instruments, the operator can automatically control the de-sludging of settlement tanks and the return of activated sludge to the secondary treatment process.

Such measurements provide a highly accurate solution to ensuring that the sludge has the optimum solids content, too low wastes energy in the sludge treatment phase, too high causes pumping problems and runs the risk of breakdown of the settling process.

Partech's inline sensor uses infrared back-scatter to provide a highly effective monitoring package, the sapphire optical window is resistant to fouling and the sensor is offered with a ball-valve arrangement to allow easy access, under pressure for calibration and maintenance. Infrared light based sensors have a major advantage over ultrasonic alternatives in that entrained air does not blind the sensor, making activated sludge operation an option and removing sensitivity to bends in pipe work.

Inline Sensor for sludge density, suspended solids and turbidity monitoring

The IL55BV2 sensor provides reliable and repeatable, continuous in-line measurement of sludge density, suspended solids and turbidity. The optical element has a sapphire window, this offers excellent resistance to fouling and damage caused by the abrasion from flow particles.

The sensor is suitable for a variety of applications including the auto de-sludging of primary and final settlement tanks, and reliable sludge density measurement ensures that downstream treatment processes can operate at their optimum level.

The sensor uses infrared back-scatter at 960nm, the light is transmitted and received through a lens that is optically split. The infrared measurement principle allows the sensor to work in applications where entrained air prevents the use of ultrasonic sensors.

The sensor is installed through a mounting boss onto any pipeline that is larger than 65 mm diameter. The sensing element is positioned flush with the inside wall of the pipe, ensuring that the optical surface is kept clean by the flow passing the sensor and making sure the sensor does not cause an obstruction to the flow.

When detecting turbidity the sensor can give immediate warning of a filter failure or of contamination of a process by suspended particles. The sensor is also well suited to the monitoring of sludge at tanker intake points, giving an excellent indicator of the strength of the incoming liquor allowing both process adjustments and the charges to be applied to the tanker operator.

Suspended Solids Monitor

The 7200 Monitor combines with the IL55BV2 sensor and other sensors to give a cost-effective solution to measurement of Suspended Solids, Turbidity and Sludge Density. The Monitor provides a large character display of the measured value combined with a scrolling information bar showing the measurement status. There is a range of standard installation options, ranging from a simple handrail bracket to a package including an outer enclosure, isolator and handrail mounting struts.

The menu structure includes set up wizards that will guide the user through system configuration and routine calibration. The wizards will ensure quick, simple installation and easy maintenance without the need to refer to the instruction manual. The calibration routine incorporates a feature where the user can tell the instrument that a sample is being taken, wait for the result from the laboratory and then enter the value.

The instrument will automatically be calibrated to the new result, in the time between taking the sample and entering the result the instrument will continue to operate on its previous calibration

Additional features include statistics for maximum and minimum values and password protection of the keypad to ensure that the system setting cannot be altered in error.
