The WRAP-200 provides Layer 3 routing capabilities for wireless networks in harsh and hazardous environments. The Intrinsically Safe design ensures safe operation in hazardous environments encountered within the mining industry.
The system supports various configuration implementations; ranging from traditional distributed antenna backbones, interconnected via a redundant fibre optic loop, to mixed configurations of distributed and leaky feeder backbones using redundant WDS and redundant fibre optic loops. The unit incorporates an additional fibre optic port for teeing off the main backbone, used for connecting to a switch. Each unit also includes a RS485 bus to communicate with any industrial serial device, such as multiple Becker UATRs for tagging and tracking implementations. The WRAP-200 also incorporates on board UHF tag readers.
The WRAP-200 key features in relation to Wi-Fi and networking functionality are:
IS approval is available for use in hazardous atmospheres like in coal mines (Ex ia, I M1),
Conformant to the IEEE standard 802.11 b/g,
Up to three independent physical Wi-Fi interfaces + virtual interfaces,
Wi-Fi interfaces can operate as bridge, mesh node, AP, VAP,
Supports meshing (uses WDS),
Supports encryption (NONE, WEP, WPA, WPA2) and authentication by PSK or Radius,
Has a high RF signal output,
Has a high RF receive sensitivity,
Operates in a temperature range from -20 to +65 Celsius,
Small and lightweight so it is easy to install and relocate,
Each WRAP-200 is a very versatile firewall,
Configuration Software provides basic (Web & Windows software) to advanced user cases (command line, SNMP and aggregation software)
Supports Routing (network layer 3) and bridging (layer 2)
Supports VLAN (IEEE 802.1q) and spanning tree protocol (RSTP)
Point to Point tunnelling (OpenVPN, PPTP, PPPoE, L2TP, IPIP, EoIP, …)
Diagnostic utilities in each WRAP (ping, trace route, packet sniffer, telnet, SSH, syslog).
