Moisture content in ranges from 0-70% for a wide variety of materials can be determined using the Chino IM series [IRMA]. While the measurement is a surface one, high accuracy can be achieved by correct selection of the measuring point - in most cases 0.1 or 0.2%. For difficult access, fibre optic sensors can be provided , and for liquids, flow line cells are available. In general the measurement is continuous on line with 4-20mA output used for a feedback control system - say for dryers.
Typical examples include flour and food mixes, paper and pulp, woodchips and vegetable fibres, garbage, compost, clay and similar substances for moisture. Film thickness and coating thickness for PP, PE, Polycarbonate, PVC - also coated paper, adhesive, and resin on steel.
Calibration curves are established for the material at set up. The calibration of the machine can then be checked using special glass plates. Operation is straightforward and set up is achieved using a PC with up to 99 calibration curves being stored in one sensor.
